Day 54

Week 7, Day 2 Triometrics done. All those one legged squats really put stress on my knees and boy do I feel it. I don't feel it twinge or more than I would normally, but it feels like cords being tightened and all it would take is one to snap and the whole thing (my leg) would come crashing down. With that said, I pushed hard, and I can feel soreness already starting. I have to push this week for me to get what I want out of this last week of resistance work for this block. I think I accomplished that today with this workout. Today is only one day, I have to be sure to keep it up every day, not just this week, but every week. Not for just working out, but in every thing you do, just bring it and do the best you can and have no regrets.

Tonight is The Biggest Loser finale and while I have not been a huge fan of the show, I have been watching it this season. Not for any particular reason, jut never really watched it. This is the first time I watched from the beginning to the finale and being a reality TV junkie I have gotten caught up in it. For me though, I think I am more caught up on it because I am facing the same thing these contestants are. The fight for the rest of our lives. This is a fight that 2/3 of the working population has because they are all obese. That statistic is unbelievable. Here are some stats:

  • Percent of adults age 20 years and over who are obese: 35.9% (2009-2010)
  • Percent of adults age 20 years and over who are overweight, including obesity: 69.2% (2009-2010)
  • Percent of adolescents age 12-19 years who are obese: 18.4% (2009-2010)
  • Percent of children age 6-11 years who are obese: 18.0% (2009-2010)
  • Percent of children age 2-5 years who are obese: 12.1% (2009-2010)

Now these stats are a few years old, but come from a compilation of sources that are all listed in the "Fatstats" section on the cdc website: CDC Fatstats. The problem is that we are growing larger populations of adults to be obese, unfit and unhealthy. This is a problem we can solve, but we have to work at it. I have taken my personal decision to become a more healthy and fit person very seriously. I want to be alive to see grandchildren and great grandchildren. I want to enjoy my life as I get older and not be stuck in a chair or on a couch. When I was young, I would think this will be forever before I need to really worry about it. Well, that time is rapidly approaching. People my age die, have strokes and get any number of forms of cancer and diseases. I have to do all I can to avoid what I can. I may not be able to prevent catching some disease or getting cancer. I can prevent or deter heart disease, CHF, atherosclerosis, PVD, CAD, Cardiomyopathy, stroke and heart attacks by being healthy and fit. As always, family history is a huge factor, but if my family history doesn't have a lot of these risks, I need to avoid putting them there by having poor nutrition, smoking and not exercising.

One day is not the most major accomplishment, but it takes a day to make a week. A week will lead to a month and then to a year. If you can do a whole year, then do it again and again and before you know it a decade. You have to start with one day, because without 1 you can't have 2. Make today that one day.
